Eco-Logical Design Philosophy
Eco-Logical design is a comprehensive sustainable landscape design approach that borrows from many disciplines and philosophies. T. Barnabas Kane & Associates uses this philosophy as a guide through a landscape architecture process that is rational, creative and value-minded. Contributing ideas include:
- Thorough understanding of the human history of landscaping and gardening
- Mathematical sequences such as Fibronacci numbers
- Classic golden mean relationships and sacred geometry
- Ancient Chinese art of geomancy and basic feng shui principles of quadrant site planning
- Contemporary permaculture principles and LEED guidelines
- Low CO2-producing plant selection based on life costing and regionally appropriate species
At each stage, we run designs through a simple, mathematical, weighted tribunal and score them positively and negatively. This process extends to all levels, including the crucial selection of materials and plants. By balancing creativity, ecology and logic, we are able to make smart, sustainable design choices that don't necessarily cost more.
