granville entry, streetscape and community center

Prescott Valley , Arizona
Universal Homes, Town of Prescott Valley
2003

This new, master-planned residential community is located in the heart of Prescott Valley, a rapidly expanding town in north-central Arizona. The recreational facilities for Granville included a community center, sports courts and picnic areas, a rose garden and a four-acre park adopted into the town park and trail system.

Our design balanced the needs of residents, town planners, visitors, pets and wildlife by integrating community areas with new habitat. Recreational facilities centered around a community center housing fitness rooms, a bath house, social meeting spaces and a dining patio. Outdoor facilities included sports courts, a children’s play area, adult and children’s swimming pools and a spa.

Landscaped monuments define entries with prominent architectural elements, streetscape and landscape. The park design links the recreational facilities with existing infrastructure, providing access for maintenance and to a public bike path and trail system. A series of private areas including picnic sites, benches, pavilions and a dog park were created with serpentine paths that wind around a central lawn. Drought-resistant plants such as desert willow, manzanita and butterfly bush
define the spaces, screen parking and roadways and integrate shade structures and restrooms. Low lighting provided for safety and appropriate illumination of signs and access points.
